Safety
Safety at DP World Southampton is not a luxury we ask for, it is a necessity, it is of paramount importance. It is our belief that everybody who works at or who visits our terminal, do so confidently knowing that they will go home in the same state of health as that in which they arrived.
It is accepted that the port industry pose numerous health & safety hazards; however, these hazards are managed in such a way that the potential for accidents is reduced to a minimum and that ‘Zero Harm’ occurs to all personnel involved in our activities.
In order to meet DP World Health & Safety Targets of zero fatalities (on a global scale) and a 20% reduction in our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR = number of lost time injuries / number of worked hours x 1,000,000), DP World has implemented a set of Fatal Risk Standards which include:
- Pedestrian Safety
- Handling Loads
- Working at Heights
- Mobile Equipment
- Vessel Safety
- Engineering
- Isolation
These Fatal Risk Standards have been identified as ‘high accident potential’ work activities. Each standard contains minimum control measures to mitigate the potential for workplace accidents and are consistently adopted across the terminal.
DP World Southampton will continue to strive to keep people safe by managing our operations in such a manner that not only avoids harm to our employees, contractors, tenants and visitors, but in such a way that it adds sustainable value to our business.
