DP World Southampton and CMA CGM strengthening logistics for UK retailers to meet Christmas trading demands
Demand for Asian imports at the start of the seasonal Christmas peak in the container shipping industry has seen one of the world’s largest shipping lines start a new service.
CMA CGM has launched the SEANE (South East Asia Northern Europe) service which made its first UK port of call on Friday 11 August at DP World Southampton.
The new service which begins at the beginning of the ‘Christmas peak’ - when retailers and manufacturers begin importing goods in large volumes from August to late October / early November, ready for the festive period - offers shippers one of the fastest transit times to the UK from South East Asia.
Typically the retail and manufacturing industries plan four months ahead for the Christmas season. There is a large demand for imports from South East Asia to which CMA CGM has responded with the introduction of the new service.
Nick Loader, Chief Executive Officer, DP World Southampton, said: “The competitive transit times offered by this new service combined with DP World Southampton’s reliable and fast inland distribution times, means UK importers have more options and flexibility to manage their complex supply chains.”
The SEANE service provides the only direct call from Jakarta, Indonesia to UK and northern Europe.
Competitive transit time from:
- Laem Chabang, Thailand to Southampton – 28 days
- Jakarta, Indonesia to Southampton – 25 days
- Port Kelang, Malaysia to Southampton – 21 days
Southampton is the first port of call in North Europe.
