"Satisfaction as Rolling Stones Cargo Signals Start of New Business at Southampton Container Terminals
The arrival of the Tokyo Express on Saturday 2 September 2006 marked the first call to Southampton Container Terminals Ltd (SCT) of the Grand Alliance US PAX service. The PAX service is one of the six new services to start at SCT this month following the decision by the Grand Alliance to consolidate all of its UK calls into SCT.
Part of the cargo loaded onto the vessel included a total of 31 40’ containers carrying sections of the stage set for the Canadian leg of the Rolling Stones worldwide tour.
SCT also welcomed the first calls from a further two of the six new weekly services over the weekend. These included the CP Discoverer operating on the GAX service and the OOCL Montreal operating on the SLCS service.
Commenting on the start of the new business, Patrick Walters, Managing Director, SCT, said:
“In the last 18 months everyone at SCT has worked incredibly hard to improve the efficiency of the terminal with very positive and tangible results. We look forward to welcoming all vessels and their crews operating on the additional six weekly services.”
