Overview
Increased globalisation and changes in the world economies are fuelling increased volumes of containerised transport and demanding alterations in global logistics.
DP World Southampton, with its eye on the future, is continually developing and adapting to meet the demands of ever larger vessels requiring quicker turnaround times and the increased need to move units by rail as well as road.
Currently the terminal operates 10 gantry cranes with two new super post-panamax gantry cranes becoming operational in July 2008, over 100 straddle carriers, 5 sprinter carriers, 6 empty container handlers, 4 reach stackers and a fleet of small vehicles on a 24/7 and 363 days per annum basis.
In 2007, DP World Southampton expanded the terminal footprint by 23.5 acres of additional yard area, purchased 15 additional straddle carriers and recruited over 100 additional operational staff.
