“You’re only as good as your last performance” and this is as true in the world of business as it is in sport. This mantra proved crucial last month when DP World Southampton experienced its busiest month ever.
In August, DP World Southampton handle a record-breaking number of boxes and set the highest monthly volume exchange in the terminal's history.
Additional cargo from the MSC Jade and the first call from the new CMA CGM SEANE service meant stack levels peaked. The terminal was operating at full utilisation as hundreds more trucks than normal descended on Southampton to collect containers.
With record volumes, the terminal had to perform. And we did.
- High vessel productivity was maintained on all other vessels alongside. Making more than 500 moves on a signle crane in a 12 hour shift, almost 42 containers per hour.
- Extra appointments and additional weekend opening for cargo collection set new landside records
- 2615 trucks were serviced in just one 24 hour period
- Truck turnaround times stayed around sub 30 minutes
In such a demanding period to be able to continue to provide our customers with a high level of service highlights another reason why Southampton makes more sense.
Although these productivity numbers look impressive, the real winner to us is reliability. Our customers not only need a fast route to market but, more importantly, the need to know that their goods will arrive on time and be discharged on time.
