New Atlantic service starts at DP World Southampton

03 June 2015

A new direct call into the UK for CMA CGM and UASC on the Atlantic trade began this weekend when the CPO Miami arrived at DP World Southampton.

The new service will also call at Cartagena in Colombia as a transhipment hub providing shippers with a new trade link between Latin America and the UK.

DP World Southampton will be the last port of call, providing UK exporters with fast transit times to the east coast of America.

The Vespucci service will replace an existing Southampton call for Hamburg Sud.  The German shipping line was a slot charterer on the G6 Atlantic services and is now working with the Ocean Three shipping alliance on this service.

This new business win for DP World Southampton provides an additional service to the four G6 North Atlantic services already calling at Southampton.

Chris Lewis, Managing Director, DP World Southampton, said:
“This new service provides very attractive transit times and more choice for customers using Southampton.  This coupled with our trademark service for performance and reliability ensures shippers can rely on Southampton to get their goods from the UK to shop floors all over the world.”

The port rotation for US east coast – UK is: Southampton - New York - Norfolk - Charleston - Savannah – Cartagena.

The Vespucci service forms part of a larger pendulum service from Asia via the Panama Canal to US East Coast and North Europe.
